Documentation: My Bouquets to Art (this video was created by Jeremy Word)
“Bouquets to Art” opened from June 5-11, 2023 at De Young Museum in San Francisco. This is my first experience with this exhibition and I was excited to be a part of it. It was intense and the galleries were packed every day.
I made an arrangement to relate the painting “Portraits (The Brown Family)” by the American artist, Eastman Johnson.
The inspirational/artistic statement:
The striking color combination of crimson, turquoise and gold, together with the sumptuous textures of the plaster carvings, convey a scene of wealth and domestic bliss. The painting inspired me to create an arrangement for the “Gilded Age” that symbolizes the imperialistic drive and economic expansion that brought about such wealth. Palm fronds, protea, anthurium represent the plunder of distant lands that generated this prosperity.
